Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has said that star striker Sergio Aguero is doubtful for City’s big clash against Liverpool on Saturday. Aguero sustained a foot injury during City’s clash against Newcastle last month and Guardiola said that he has been playing through the pain all these weeks.

Aguero scored in City’s 2-0 win over Brighton yesterday but left the field soon after. Now, Guardiola has said that he is doubtful for City’s next two matches against Hoffenheim and Liverpool.

Guardiola said, “Sergio is struggling a bit with some problems in his foot. He’s not 100 per cent. He’s not recovered from what happened against Newcastle. We spoke about playing 55-60 minutes and we were lucky that he scored a goal in the right moment.

We are controlling, fighting but he needs time. Now we have two games left before the international break. Hopefully he can do these two games and make a final recovery but he’s not in his best condition right now physically because he has a problem with his heel.”

It will be a huge blow for Manchester City if Aguero does not play their next two matches, both of which are pretty important ones. The match against Liverpool at Anfield is particularly important as Liverpool haven’t lost a league match there for over a year. Hence, City will need their best team for that match.

Aguero isn’t in Argentina’s squad for their friendlies against Iraq and Brazil later this month. Hence, he can have a long rest to come back to full fitness.

Manchester City are currently at the top of the table with 19 points. Liverpool also have 19 points but City have a much superior goal difference.
