Pep Guardiola has said Manchester City suffered in their win over Watford.

He also believes it was a nervy victory against Javi Gracia’s side.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that his side were made to suffer in their win against Watford. The Premier League holders faced a late scare as Abdoulaye Doucoure scored a goal in the 85th minute but the Citizens held onto their lead and won the match by 1-2 at Vicarage Road, courtesy of goals from Leroy Sane and Riyad Mahrez.

This win helps the reigning Premier League champions to hold onto their position at the top of the points table as they are looking firm favourites to win the Premier League twice in a row. However, Guardiola was worried to see his side, who have generally dominated proceedings against almost every opponent they have played against this season so far, face a strong resurgence from the Hornets late in the match.

Guardiola said, “We had the chances to kill the game and score a third, and maybe a fourth but we missed them.” He added, “In the first half they had one clear chance, but we had many, and then we had three or four more chances after we went 2-0 ahead. Then, we started to lose balls and let them have an opportunity to get back into it. In this league, you have to score the third goal and we didn’t do that, so that’s why we suffered near the end.”

City are currently leading Liverpool, who are placed at the second potion in the league table, by 5 points. The Reds will play their 15th match of the season against Burnley.
