Pep Guardiola is hoping to witness some real desire for the Premier League title when they host West Ham United on Wednesday.

The defending champions are trailing by just one point and will reclaim the top spot if they manage to get the better of the Hammers provided Liverpool drop points against Watford simultaneously.

The Reds have shown vulnerabilities in the title race and have dropped points on three occasions in the last four matches. With City competing on four fronts it would be difficult for them to keep up the pressure on the table toppers.

But the Sky Blues side has shown supreme quality as they have kept their hopes of a quadruple alive.

Guardiola said, “I want to see tomorrow the desire to really win this title.

“I want to see it. I don’t care the way we play or the other things. I want to smell in the locker room, in the beginning of the game, during the game with our fans, if we really, really, now one competition is over, if really we want to win this title.

“I want to see their faces tomorrow, my players, and maybe after the game I tell you if I saw something special or not.”

“I don’t want to see excuses from my players about the tiredness or about the schedules or the fixtures or how many games

“When you are in the last two months of the season, the mentality makes the difference.

“People say, ‘no, without this player… the other one,’ it doesn’t matter. We have a deep squad, we have good enough players, in our second team too.”
