Pep Guardiola Was Serious About Playing Manuel Neuer In Midfield

Bayern Munich chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed that Pep Guardiola was very serious about playing Manuel Neuer in midfield.

The current Manchester City boss was never any short of praise for Bayern’s custodian while he was still with them. He is known to prefer goalkeepers who are good with their feet just like Victor Valdes, Neuer and now, Ederson.

“I still remember how, after winning the championship, Pep Guardiola seriously had the idea to play him [Neuer] in midfield for a game,” Rummenigge told the club’s official matchday magazine. “Only with great effort was I able to dissuade Pep from this idea, which some people would perhaps have interpreted as arrogance on our part. But I am convinced: Manu would have cut a good figure in midfield, too.”

We can only imagine that Guardiola passed on his thoughts in good humour to the Bavarians chief. He has won two Premier League titles in his three full seasons with Manchester City, completing the domestic treble last season. Many have hailed him as one of the best managers in world football and his demand for perfection is well known amongst the footballing sphere. He likes to implement an aggressive attacking strategy which starts with a quick pass of the ball from the very back. Now, we are all left to wonder, did he really mean it?
