Phil Foden has revealed he wants to follow the footsteps of David Silva.
Foden was called up to the England U21 squad for the first time following his emergence to the Manchester City senior squad. The 18 year old was expected to be called up to the senior squad after breaking through to the City team but it seems he has to wait for his turn.
Foden is expected to make his debut for the Three Lions U21 side and could be seen on the pitch against Andorra and Scotland in the UEFA European Qualifiers. the 18 year old was the best player in the U17 World Cup held in India last year and is tipped to be the flag bearer of the Three Lions team in future.
Unlike Jadon Sancho who already has made a mark in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, Foden is still not proven on the big stage and he might need to prove his mettle.
On being asked about David Silva the youngster answered, “He’s been a great player for us and I’ve really enjoyed watching him.
“I watch him closely, he’s a great player and someone I want to be like in the future.
“Probably him and Lionel Messi. I’m my own player, but they are great players.
“They have great characters, the show that on the pitch, and impress me every time they play.”
