Everton skipper Phil Jagielka could be handed a three-match ban due to his foul on Wolves player Diogo Jota. The foul on Diogo Jota saw  referee Craig Pawson giving Jagielka a straight red card . Soon after Jagielka’s red card, Ruben Neves equalised for Wolves, cancelling out Richarlison’s first goal for Everton. Richarlison restored the lead for The Toffees before Raul Jimenez headed another equaliser to draw the match for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Reports suggest that Jagielka was shown the card because he denied Jota a clear scoring opportunity. This generally leads to a one-match ban. However, following the conclusion of the match, Everton were told that his red card was for serious foul play. This results in a three-match ban.

When asked about the reason behind Jagielka’s red, Everton boss Marco Silva replied, “We don’t know what he was thinking about. “In the first moment he didn’t give the foul and then, after he took one or two seconds, he gave the foul and the red card. But we respect his decision.”

Jagielka’s teammate Leighton Baines said of the red card, “It seemed harsh. In real time it looked a good tackle. I’ve seen it from a wide-angled replay and I still feel exactly the same.”

Phil Jagielka’s ban may put his place in the squad in jeopardy as it will pave the way for new signing Yerry Mina to take his place. Everton’s next match will be against Southampton at Goodison Park on Saturday
