According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Marlos Romero.
The 27-year-old, who signed for Shakhtar from Metalist Kharkiv for £6.9million in 2014, has been the Ukrainian side’s shining light since Alex Teixeira’s shock move to China in January.
Romero has scored an impressive 12 goals in 48 games from midfield, which has undoubtedly filled the void left by his fellow countryman.
This impressive record has put him on the Spurs radar recently, and it is understood Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to sign Marlos- with the Argentine believed to have asked the club’s hierarchy to push for a deal this summer.
However, due to the departure of Teixeira earlier this season, the club will be very reluctant to sell, possibly only letting the player go for £19million.
Ahead of Champions league football next season, Pochettino will be looking to bolster his squad and add more depth to it, so to challenge for a respectable position in the league at the same time.
Tottenham’s form faltered towards the end of the season as 5000-1 shot Leicester claimed the crown, but their youthful and attacking squad attracted plaudits after mounting a serious title push- giving fans hope for seasons to come.
