Gianluigi Buffon delighted star snubbed Manchester City and Chelsea

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has revealed his delight at Paul Pogba rejecting a chance to join Manchester City or Chelsea over the summer and has labelled his decision as ‘good for football.’

The Frenchman was on the radar of several European clubs, but it was from the Premier League where the serious interest came from, especially with the recently upped Premier League TV money rights.

Both City and Chelsea had mega-money to spend and it was well documented that Jose Mourinho‘s men were offering big money to sign Pogba from Juventus.

However, the midfielder rejected a contract from the Blues and stayed in Italy with the Serie A champions, despite them willing to sell.

Speaking about Pogba, Buffon admitted that he’s delighted the midfielder chose to stay and he believes the decision was good for football.

Buffon Delight

“The level that Paul Pogba was playing at last season, there was nobody better in the world, and I include [Lionel] Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo in that,” he said.

“When you are at that level, stories are always going to be written about your future.

“Manchester City are one of three or four clubs in the world that can pay what I call crazy money, so it’s only natural they were interested in him.

“He made his intentions to stay with Juventus very clear though, and that was important for us, but also important for football. It showed that money doesn’t always win.”

What could be concerning for Buffon is that it’s reported Pogba has already agreed a pre-contract with FC Barcelona, which will see him complete a move in January once the La Liga side has their transfer embargo lifted.
