Pedro Porro’s actions after the final whistle blew have infuriated Tottenham fans following their 2-1 loss to Fulham. After the game was over, the Spaniard yelled at teammate Lucas Bergvall, seemingly incensed.
In the first six minutes of the match, everything went wrong for the Spurs. Within four minutes, Kenny Tete’s deflected goal gave the visitors the lead, and only 120 seconds later, Harry Wilson took advantage of a disastrous error by custodian Guglielmo Vicario.
Mohammed Kudus gave Thomas Frank’s team a point in the second half, but they were unable to equalise before referee Stuart Attwell called the match. As a result, Spurs dropped to 10th place in the Premier League after suffering their fourth loss in six games.
After the final whistle, the squad was jeered by home fans, but several of the players were also affected. Porro looked to be yelling at Bergvall, who was moving around the stadium to cheer on the spectators, according to video taken inside the stadium.
Porro shouted at Lucas Bergvall & stormed down after Tottenham’s loss
Manager Thomas Frank chastised those who jeered the goalie, but Vicario took it all in stride. Pedro Porro, a right-back, was obviously upset about what the Spurs fans were doing. Following the loss, a clearly irate Porro became enraged at Lucas Bergvall for going around to applaud the supporters before rushing down the tunnel.
It is completely nonsensical to single out the goalie. Making mistakes is inevitable, particularly in stressful circumstances, and hurling animosity at Vicario will only make him feel more burdened. It has no effect on his self-assurance, the stability of the team, or the Spurs’ prospects of improving their performance.
If anything, it runs the danger of making the environment more poisonous at a time when harmony is most required. Rarely do better performances result from fans attacking their own goalie. Ideally, Antonin Kinsky could replace the Italian, but he isn’t prepared to take over. In order to give Vicario competition during the winter transfer window, supporters must exercise patience and hope that the team will pursue a new custodian.
