SillySeason make their predictions for this weekend’s games

After a week of Capital One Cup action, attention turns back to the Premier League, with all teams in action from Saturday to Monday.

Saturday sees seven games, Sunday has two and Monday has the remaining game.

This week lead-writer Alex Batt takes on Ben Reardon in the predictions and here is how they think this weekend will go.

Saturday’s Games

Chelsea vs Liverpool

Alex Says: What a massive game this is. Reports suggest Jose Mourinho will be sacked if Chelsea lose, but I can’t see them doing that. I reckon they will actually get a vital win against Jurgen Klopp’s side. It won’t be pretty though. Match Prediction: 1-0

Ben Says: Chelsea need a win, for their own sake, and Jose Mourinho’s sake. After a poor start, they are coming up against a Liverpool side who have flattered to deceive somewhat under new manager Jurgen Klopp – Chelsea will edge this one, just. Match Prediction: 2-1

Crystal Palace vs Manchester United

Alex Says: What a game this could be. Selhurst Park is a tough place to go, but United have been doing well on the road, including a great victory against Everton. However, their loss to Middlesbrough in midweek may effect them. I can see both sides taking a point here. Match Prediction: 2-2

Ben Says: Palace have been one of the surprise packages this season, with their attractive brand of football under Alan Pardew. Meanwhile, Manchester United have been below par of late, following defeat against Middlesbrough in the League Cup. I’ll go for a score draw. Match Prediction: 1-1

Manchester City vs Norwich City

Alex Says: Can only see one winner in this. Norwich let in six against Newcastle United and then lost at home to West Brom. It’s going to be a tough match for them and City could run riot. Match Prediction: 5-0

Ben Says: Is there any stopping Manchester City or the league title? They have been superb of recent late, scoring five each in their last two games. Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling are proved their money’s worth, and Norwich will feel the full force at the Etihad Stadium. Match Prediction: 4-0

Newcastle United vs Stoke City

Alex Says: Tough game to call this. Newcastle are so up-and-down, while Stoke are starting to hit form. Could play safe and sit on the fence, but I think Mark Hughes’ men could snatch all three points. Match Prediction: 0-1

Ben Says: Both of these sides need a win to kick-start their season, Newcastle are in a mess to put it frankly, following the weekend defeat in the derby at Sunderland, while Stoke will be confident, having dumped Chelsea out the League cup on penalties. I can see the Potters claiming maximum points at St James’ Park. Match Prediction: 1-2

Swansea City vs Arsenal

Alex Says: Arsenal have had a bad week following their Capital One Cup exit, but in the league they’ve been in great form. As for Swansea, they haven’t been doing well recently, but did beat Aston Villa last weekend. Garry Monk does VERY well against Arsene Wenger and I can see Swans taking a point here. Match Prediction: 1-1

Ben Says: This is tough to call, Swansea have struggled for consistency on home soil so far this season, with Arsenal reeling from a shock defeat at Sheffield Wednesday. The Gunners will revert back to their senior squad, so expect to see Wenger’s side win it in South Wales. Match Predicion: 1-3

Watford vs West Ham United

Alex Says: Another tricky game to call. Watford have been doing okay as of late and got a great win against Stoke City last weekend. As for West Ham, they continue to impress with their form against the big teams. Tough game to call but I think Watford could snatch three points here. Match Prediction: 2-1

Ben Says: Both sides got got three points in the last game week, Watford are finding their feet in the Premier League, while West Ham are going from strength to strength under Bilic – West Ham to win at Vicarage Road. Match Prediction: 1-2

West Brom vs Leicester City

Alex Says: What a start Leicester City have had and I think they could continue their great start here. West Brom haven’t done well consistently, so I think they could slump to yet another defeat here. Match Prediction: 1-3

Ben Says: Leicester, similar to Palace, have been another side to watch this season, with Jamie Vardy leading the line at the Hawthorns this weekend, Albion, who are fragile at the back, will fear the consequences. Match Prediction: 0-2

Sunday’s Games

Everton vs Sunderland

Alex Says: This has home win all over it in my opinion. Sunderland did well against Newcastle United, but that was down to them being a man short. I think Sam Allardyce will suffer his second loss as Black Cats boss. Match Prediction: 2-0

Ben Says: Everton are going through somewhat of a sticky patch at the minute, their early season promise has evaporated, with the Toffees now 11th in the league. Sunderland on the other hand, look solid under Big Sam Allardyce, I can see the Black Cats strike lucky at Everton. Match Prediction: 1-3

Southampton vs Bournemouth

Alex Says: Another game that has home win written all over it. Bournemouth will struggle this season due to injuries and I think Saints will stroll to a victory. Match Prediction: 3-0

Ben Says: Southampton are getting back into their stride this term, after a recent run of positive results in league and cup. They play are Bournemouth side who are looking ever increasingly out of their depth, key injuries to key players will see them on the end of a defeat, in a south coast derby. Match Prediction: 3-0

Monday’s Game

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa

Alex Says: Should be an easy win here for Tottenham with Aston Villa manager-less after Tim Sherwood’s dismissal. Should be a matter of by how much for Spurs. Match Prediction: 3-0

Ben Says: Spurs are coming into their own, so is forward Harry Kane! A beleaguered Villa visit the Lane, having parted company with Tim Sherwood last week. Given the Lilywhites are at home, three points will most likely be gained, against a side who I’ve tipped for the drop. Match Prediction: 2-0

So there are the writers picks for this weekend.
