Ronald Koeman gives his thoughts

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has said that the FA were right to sack Sam Allardyce from the England job, claiming the whole incident is a stain on the reputation of football.

With a heavy heart, Koeman admitted that the FA made the right call after Allardyce was caught using his position to negotiate big-money deals and advising businessmen on how to get around FA rules.

And even though the experienced Premier League boss has some sympathy with the disgraced coach, he believes the entire issue has left a stain on football.

“If you like football it’s a bad story, for football in general it’s a black mark on the football and that’s not good. That’s my view,” he explained.

“I am very disappointed. First of all for the man himself, he had a chance to be the national team manager of England then this happened. But OK – I think the FA took the right decision.”

Koeman explained that, after managing all around Europe, he think this could just be a problem with British football, as managers abroad never get involved in the financial part of the game.

And he hinted that maybe some English managers have too big an influence in negotiating deals, which could leave them open to problems.

“I don’t know if it’s just British football, what I know is how I work in my manager role, it’s not different now in the Premier than when I was a coach in Holland, Portugal and Spain,” he said.
