It’s the Premier League’s penultimate weekend predictions

With just two weeks left of the Premier League, every point matters now for the clubs scrapping at the bottom and fighting for places in Europe.

The title-race is done and dusted, the top-four race is over barring a ridiculous goal-swing in Liverpool’s favour and there is just one spot left for relegation.

Chelsea crowned champions, the top-four decided and Burnley and Queens Park Rangers confirmed their relegation back to the Championship all in the past fortnight.

Now it’s getting to the business end and all eyes will be on the teams fighting the drop.

For this weekend’s predictions, lead-writer Alex Batt will be going up against Louie Chandler.

Premier League Saturday Predictions

Southampton vs Aston Villa

Alex Says: This is a really hard game to predict. Saints have nothing left to play for but are solid at home, whilst Aston Villa are still not guaranteed safety. I think a point now would keep Villa up and I think that’s what they’ll get. Match Prediction: 1-1

Louie Says:  Looking at the current form of the two teams, it would be hard to call anything other than an Aston Villa win, and I feel that is exactly what will happen. With Benteke scoring goals for fun, and Pelle doing the opposite, I think this game will be won up front, and Villa will have too much for me. Match Prediction: 0-2

Burnley vs Stoke City

Alex Says: Hopefully it won’t be all doom and gloom at Turf Moor on Saturday despite the relegation. Sean Dyche’s men have competed in the top-flight and given it a good go, but sadly fallen short. Stoke have had a superb season and are looking to finish as high as possible. Think this has another draw written all over it. Match Prediction: 0-0

Louie Says: Both teams certainly have something to play for. Burnley will be keen to finish their season of the underdog above one team, whilst Stoke will want to achieve their highest points total. For this reason, I think it will be an entertaining match, where the two teams ultimately cancel each other out. Match Prediction: 2-2

QPR vs Newcastle United

Alex Says: Same for Burnley really. QPR already down and went down in embarrassing fashion last weekend. As for Newcastle, somehow they are in this relegation scrap. Eight losses and one draw in the last night. I reckon QPR could bring The Magpies into further trouble. Match Prediction: 1-0

Louie Says: A match where both teams will be desperate for a win. QPR will want to combat the idea that a lot of their players don’t care, whilst Newcastle are desperate for points to avoid relegation. But, I think the team who still have something to play for will scrape three points here. Match Prediction: 0-1

Sunderland vs Leicester City

Alex Says: Probably the biggest game of the weekend. Sunderland in all kinds of danger despite their win over Southampton, whilst Leicester look somehow to have beaten the drop. Nigel Pearson has worked miracles in recent weeks to keep them safe and I can see this being another tight Foxes win. Match Prediction: 1-2

Louie Says: Easily the biggest match of the weekend. Expect a tight cagey affair, in which neither team will want to lose. Leicester, it could be argued, are far superior on the ball, and for that reason I think they can get a win here. Match Prediction: 1-2

Tottenham Hotspur vs Hull City

Alex Says: On paper this looks like a tough game for Hull, but in reality, it’s a great time to play Spurs. Nothing to play for and already on their holidays, Steve Bruce’s men could really get something from this game. All three points? Maybe not, but got a chance to take a point. Match Prediction: 2-2

Louie Says: A match with plenty to play for, as Spurs will look to secure their Europe League position with both Southampton and Swansea breathing menacingly down their necks. Hull on the other hand have been dragged right back into the relegation mix after two wins seemed to see them clear of the zone. I think Tottenham’s quality will shine through here however, and will cruise to a comfortable victory. Match Prediction: 3-0

West Ham vs Everton

Alex Says: A nothing game of all nothing games. Both teams safe and going nowhere higher or lower. West Ham on a downward spiral so I am going to back The Toffees here. Match Prediction: 0-1

Louie Says: Without doubt the match that zero neutrals will have their eye on. Two teams who now have nothing to play for after one suffered a disastrous start to the season and one experienced a dream start! Expect this match to live up to its feeble hype, and not the entertaining FA Cup match that preceded it. A moment of magic will win it for Everton. Match Prediction: 0-1

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Alex Says: Another game that means nothing for the league. However, it’s Steven Gerrard’s last home game as a Liverpool player. It’s a memorable day at Anfield and I really hope Stevie G can pull off a Stevie G moment with a 90th minute winner. Match Prediction: 2-1

Louie Says: Again, a match with little to play for. Pardew has rescued what could have been a disastrous season for Palace, whilst Liverpool’s top four challenge has all but gone. But I’m a romantic, and with Steven Gerrard walking out at Anfield for the last time in a Liverpool shirt, it will surely be a home win: with a Stevie G penalty. Match Prediction: 2-0

Premier League Sunday Predictions

Swansea City vs Manchester City

Alex Says: What a job Gary Monk has done. Swansea could surprisingly still get into the Europa League this season and after their 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium, I am backing them to shock City as well. Match Prediction: 2-1

Louie Says: Expect The Swans to cause an upset here, even with City coming in off the back of a 6-0 win. Swansea have had a wonderful, if understated season, and could still sneak a Europa League spot from Spurs. With City’s ageing and inconsistent squad, I expect Gary Monk’s team to snatch all three points in a backs to the wall performance. Match Prediction: 1-0

Manchester United vs Arsenal

Alex Says: Probably the battle for third place here, but if Arsenal win both their remaining home games, this match won’t mean a thing. United won at the Emirates, but then Arsenal won at Old Trafford in the FA Cup. Must be a draw then. Match Prediction: 2-2

Louie Says: Here we have battle to not finish fourth. Expect United to fly out of the traps against Arsenal. With the season they had last term, they would settle for fourth, but for Arsenal, fourth would be seen as a failure by many fans, especially given their recent lofty positions. However, a win for Gunners could see them nick second spot from City, which would be a great achievement. Match Prediction: 3-2

Premier League Monday Predictions

West Bromwich Albion vs Chelsea

Alex Says: Another nothing game of the weekend. WBA safe and Chelsea champions. Going to play it safe and say away win here. Match Prediction: 0-3

Louie Says: With both teams left with nothing to play for, expect a lot of goals in this one, defying the Monday night curse. Chelsea will field a solid, but perhaps experimental side with Loftus-Cheek expected to start again in midfield. A start for Juan Cuadrado may also be in order. For West Brom, it is another season of mediocrity, which they will take for this season, but don’t expect them to take anything here. Match Prediction: 2-4

Premier League Wednesday Predictions

Arsenal vs Sunderland

Alex Says: Due to FA Cup responsibilities, this is a game in hand Arsenal had over their rivals. Sunderland struggling and despite Swansea’s shock win on Monday night in North London, I can only see one winner here. Match Prediction: 2-1

Louie Says: This is the trump card that both Arsenal and Sunderland hold over their rivals for second and relegation respectively. I expect Arsenal to be the ones who play it here though. I feel Sunderland will be picked off far to easily, and their meagre defence will be no match for Arsenal’s attack. Match Prediction: 4-1
