Premier League Race Comparable To Real-Barca Battle

Premier League winner and current Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola believes the English title race is similar to what he faced against Real Madrid in the La Liga.

According to the Spanish tactician, winning every game is of the utmost importance just like that in the La Liga. He was quoted, “It’s quite similar, it can have that feeling, it’s just trying to win every game, you are in front, try to keep the moment, the players know it.”

Manchester City are a point off Liverpool in the current standings after their 2-0 loss against Chelsea last week. Guardiola pulled off his first title win in England in the most dominating fashion last season, setting a record for wins, goals scored and points earned.

Guardiola took only two years to shower the Etihad with success, winning the 2017/18 League Cup as well. He also managed to secure 3 La Liga titles during his 4 years at Barcelona as manager.

The Premier League is considered by many as the most competitive due to the sheer number of teams capable of winning it. The La Liga often turns out to be a double-headed battle between Real Madrid and Barcelona with Atletico Madrid making the occasional run in.

Guardiola further added, “Not just Liverpool – Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, [Manchester] United can join us. We knew it from the beginning, everyone had that feeling, everyone had it. We had the feeling not just Man City but others – maybe we are going to drop a few points.

“But the feeling is quite similar, Madrid was always demanding a lot, we have to win and we knew it. We can lose games against Real Madrid but we had to win against the others – or we are not able to win the title – 99 points, 96 points, a lot of points.”
