SillySeason look ahead to Wednesday’s Champions League matches
The Champions League returns for Game-week Three and SillySeason have took time out to preview Wednesday night’s matches.
It’s Group A to Group D’s turn tonight, and here is our preview.
Malmö FF V Shaktar Donetsk
Both sides head into this clash without a win in the competiton, Shakhtar Donetsk will be hoping to bounce back from back-to-back defeats to the Real Madrid and PSG when they take on Malmo in their third group game. Winger Taison should recover in time to face Malmo. Mircea Lucescu has no other selection
Malmo will be without star players Zlatan Azinovic and Guillermo Molins due to injury, it will be a tough night for the sweedish outfit as few would argue their status as underdogs.
PSG V Real Madrid
Both Real Madrid and PSG have made a promising start to their Champions League campaign with both sides collecting full points from their opening two matches.
Reak Madrid are without James Rodriguez, Karim Benzema, Pepe and Dani Carvajal and Gareth Bale for the clash.
PSG’s midfield can be a real threat tonight With Matuidi, Motta, and Verratti set to make the difference in the encounter. One man who will be in for a difficult night is Serge Aurier, the right back has been PSG’s star player this season and will be handed the task of keeping Cristiano Ronaldo queit.
Paris Saint-Germain will be eager to prove they’re as good as Real Madrid tonight, the game at the Parc des Princes will be one to watch.
CSKA Moscow V Manchester United
United recorded a vital win over Wolfsburg on matchday two that prevented the Reds from dropping to the bottom of Group B. Louis Van Gaal’s side will now look defeat CSKA for the first time at home this season.
Manchester will be without Ashley Young, James Wilson and Paddy McNair for the fixture in Moscow.Moscow will hope to have Russia’s Igor Akinfeev in goal despite a recent knock, they will be without Bibras Natcho and Vasili Berezutski.
Either side could finish tonights game at the top of group B, Mnachester United are unsuprisngly Favourites, However CSKA have the ability to turn over the Red Devils tonight.
VFL Wolfsburg V PSV
PSV sit top of group B on goal difference with all four teams locked on three points after two games. Phillip Cocu’s side were defeated 3-2 by CSKA Moscow in week two.
Opponents Wolfsburg also suffered a defeat in the last round of the Champions League when Manchester United beat the Germans 2-1 at Old Trafford.
Cocu will be without Santiago Arias for the game after the right back’s red card in Russia, while Maxime Lestienne has also not traveled with the squad.Luuk de Jong is in line to start after recovering from injury. Wolfsburg will be without the services of defenders Felipe and Robin Knoche due to injury.
Athletico Madrid V Astana
Tonight’s game will see Astana rest six players ahead of potential title decider against Kairat Almaty. Meanwhile Athletico will be looking to field their strongest 11. Astana Picked up a suprise point against Galatasary but still remain Underdogs. Madrid remain second in group C after a defeat to Benfica.
Fernando Torres may steal the limelight tonight as he is just One goal away from 100 for Athletico, The former liverpool man has played 277 games for the Spanish club.
There is no doubt Athletico are favourites tonight, however Diego Simeone’s side must be wary of under-estimating tonight’s visitors.
Galatasaray V Benfica
Tonight Galatasary will be hoping to win their first game in the Champions League campaign. Visitors Benfica are top of group C and have won both games in the group so far.
Burak Yilmaz’s return to fitness has provided a boost for Galatasaray however it may not be enough to beat the Portuguese Side. For Benfica, defender Nelson Semedo and striker Nuno Santos are both unavailable with knee problems.
In Tonight’s clash Benfica are favourites , but this one could go either way.
Juventus V Borussia Mönchengladbach
That was a mouthfull! In tonight’s Encounter Juventus will be looking to make it 3 out of 3 in Group D so far. Meanwhile Mönchengladbach will be looking for their first win in the group.
Juventus are without Martin Caceres and Stephan Lichtsteiner for tonight’s game , Gianluigi Buffon is a doubt. Gladbach are without Granit Xhaka, Patrick Herrmann, Nico Schulz and Martin Stranzl for the trip to Turin.
The German club will be looking to carry on their impressive league form in the Champions League however it is likely that The ‘Old Lady’ will be too much for them.
Manchester City V Sevilla
Manchester City will move into the top two in Champions League Group if they beat Sevilla Tonight.
Unai Emery’s Sevilla have been in bad form when compared to the form that led to fifth place in La Liga last seaso.
City will be without Samir Nasri Sergio Aguero, David Silva , Gael Clichy and Fabian Delph for This Evening’s Clash. The La Liga side will be without Gael Kakuta, Sergio Escudero, Daniel Carrico, Fernando Llorente, Luismi.
The Premier League favourites however this game could be a tough one to call, a win for either team would push them up the table.
