PSG and United in major swap deal?

Two South American stars could be swapping clubs

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United could land Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, but only if Angel Di Maria heads in the opposite direction as part of a swap deal.

The Red Devils’ boss Louis van Gaal has made no secret that he wants a top striker in this summer’s transfer window. He has also made no secret about his disappointment in Di Maria’s form since he moved to Old Trafford for a British record ÂŁ59.7 million.

Deals for targets such as Harry Kane, Mario Mandzukic and Christian Benteke have all fizzled out due to different reasons.

Kane has been deemed as not for sale by Tottenham Hotspur, Mandzukic has joined Serie A champions Juventus from Atletico Madrid and Benteke is too pricey having being valued at ÂŁ32.5 million by Aston Villa.

Other European giants have shown interest

United have often been reluctant to sell the Argentine international Di Maria, despite interest from European giants Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

However, a move to PSG for Di Maria would benefit the Manchester club because in return they could receive a world class striker in the shape of Cavani.

It is believed the Uruguyan international would be very interested in a Premier League move as well, especially when he would be playing as an out-and-out centre forward at United.

Cavani often finds himself playing wide in the front three that PSG boss Laurent Blanc likes to implement, with talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic being the spearhead of the attack.

BUT records at his previous clubs suggest Cavani severely profits from playing as the poacher. During his time at Napoli, he scored 78 goals in 104 Serie A matches.

His current record for PSG isn’t bad either, the 28-year old has 34 goals in 65 Ligue 1 appearances for the French champions; the kind of threat that van Gaal wants in his Manchester United side.
