PSG fallout continues as Julian Draxler attacks transfer policy and Unai Emery tactics.
The fallout from Paris St Germain’s Champions League exit continues with Julian Draxler hitting out at the club’s transfer policy and Unai Emery’s tactics.
The French outfit were dismissed at the Round of 16 stage after losing both home and away to the reigning European champions.
With Ligue 1 supremacy virtually guaranteed, the greatest barometer of success is the Champions League. So an early exit from the tournament has been keenly felt in Paris.
Draxler, who had to make do with coming off the bench in both fixtures, has spoken out. “Real Madrid played quietly and were not nervous,” he told German TV station ZDF.
“We moved the ball, but you can’t win by doing that. You must press Real when you are 3-1 down, not just make passes and wait for something to fall from the sky.
“This summer, we spent 400 million euros and everyone said that this would change things, but we still haven’t progressed past this round.”
This is the sixth season in a row in which PSG have participated in the Champions League but failed to go deep into the competition. Last season they lost at the same stage and in the previous four reached the quarter-finals become coming unstuck.
