PSV reveal Liverpool contact over Depay

Liverpool made attempts to capture new Manchester United signing Memphis Depay, PSV Eindhoven have claimed.

The Dutch winger agreed a  four-year contract to move to Old Trafford last week, which came as a surprise to many Liverpool fans, who were lead to believe that they were the front runners in the race for the pace machine.

After news broke that Depay will be moving to United for around £25 million pounds once the summer transfer window opens, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers insisted that Liverpool never expressed an interest in signing the player.

However, it has now been said by PSV that is is not the case, with the Dutch club suggesting that talks were held between the technical director Marcel Brands and one of the Kop’s top men.

Brands said: “There was a lot of interest in him.”

“Finally we spoke with three clubs and we made contact.”

“I didn’t speak with Brendan Rodgers. I had contact with [Liverpool chief executive] Ian Ayre.”
