Sterling returned to Loftus Road with Liverpool as the Reds ran out 3-2 winners following a dramatic finale and it was the winger’s first match against the Rs since his move to Liverpool back in 2010.

But it has been revealed that the West London side could pocket £15m if he joins Real Madrid, a club with whom he has been heavily linked, because the deal to sell him to the Reds for a knock-down price of £500,000 came with a 25% sell-on clause.

Los Blancos are reportedly willing to spend as much as £60m to bring the teenager to the Bernabeu if he doesn’t sign a new Liverpool contract and a quarter of that sum would be welcome money to QPR owner Tony Fernandes, who faces a fine of £40m if the club are relegated to The Championship in breach of FPP rules.

QPR are currently bottom of the Premier League and manager Harry Redknapp will have his future under heavy speculation following his side’s defeat to Brenden Rodgers’ men on Sunday.
