Rafa Benitez Praises Aleksandar Mitrovic

Rafa Benitez feels Aleksandar Mitrovic should play his natural game when Fulham visit Newcastle United as the gaffer insists the forward need not do anything to show the Magpies what they are missing.

Mitrovic is very familiar with the St James Park atmosphere as he donned the black and white stripes for more than two years. But Benitez’s style of play seemed to have had an adverse effect on the player’s ability as he found himself isolated in the attacking third.

In two and a half years the 24 year old found the net just 17 times which doesn’t speak for himself at all. Since moving to Craven Cottage the Serbian forward has been on a goal scoring spree and looked to be a completely different player altogether.

Benitez denies the possibility of Mitrovic proving his credentials once again. “No I don’t think so.

“I think he is doing well. He is playing well, scoring goals for them. He is working very hard, so I think he will be happy at the moment.

“Obviously he will like to score as many goals as he can but I don’t think he has to prove anything because he is doing well.”

“He is a good player, we knew that before, and I wish him all the best after this game,

“I think he will give everything on the pitch because that is his style of play, and hopefully we can keep him quiet.

“My main priority is to be sure the team is in a good position in the table. I am not talking about every single player.

“You have to concentrate on what you have. I am happy with our strikers, they are doing well, but especially I am happy with our position in the table at the moment.”
