Ex-Liverpool and Chelsea boss heading back to England?

Napoli boss, Rafael Benitez was quick to deny he had been in contact with the current Premier League champions.

Despite being almost guaranteed of a Europa League semi-final place, Spanish journalist Guillem Balague believes he could be on his way out.

When asked about Benitez’s future, Balague told Sky Sports News HD: “He’s looking for something else now because he feels that the club is not challenging for the title.”

“He’d like to go to a team that can challenge for titles, but I’m very certain that he won’t stay at Napoli next season.

Waiting for Guardiola

Man City’s top target is Pep Guardiola but they could hand a 12-month deal to Benitez while they wait for the current Bayern Munich manager.

There have also been rumours that a possible vacancy might emerge at PSG with Balague hinting that he “could be a candidate there”.

Benitez has previously managed the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool and he is believed to be keen on a return to English football.

A source close to the Spaniard told the Daily Star: “He has always wanted to work in the Premier League again because he thinks it’s the best place to be.

“It would have to be the right offer for him and managing Manchester City appeals to him. It’s something he would definitely be keen on.”

10 years ago, he saw Liverpool lift the Champions League trophy and he hasn’t done much to quell rumours about a move to Manchester.

He said: “I have not had contacts with City, unlike what I’ve read in England.

“I have spoken to the (Napoli) president via messages but we have not been able to meet due to our busy playing schedule in order to evaluate the business plan.

“Now our focus is on matters on the pitch.”
