Netherlands defender John Heitinga would be a perfect fit for Hertha Berlin according to fellow Dutchman and Bundesliga star Rafael van der Vaart.
The solid 30 year-old was not selected for the Dutch world cup team by Louis van Gaal and was released by Fulham at the end of last season following their relegation from the Premier League.
And former Tottenham playmaker Van der Vaart, who will miss the tournament in Brazil himself through a calf injury, is confident that Heitinga would suit German football perfectly and would be a valuable asset to Hertha Berlin.
Van der Vaart told Berlin newspaper BZ: “Should Johnny join Hertha Berlin, they would be signing a top-quality defender.
“He has picked up a lot of valuable experience in the top leagues of European football.
“In addition, he is a true leader. (He) deals exceptionally well with young players in a squad.”
Heitinga moved to Craven Cottage from Everton back in January but was unable to help his side avoid relegation last term, with the West London side conceding 32 goals in his 14 appearances for the club.
