Liverpool star closing in on transfer

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling is currently undergoing a medical at Manchester City ahead of a proposed £49million switch.

The England international has been expected to leave Anfield all summer after informing the club officials at the end of last season that he won’t be signing a contract extension.

Sterling’s Controversial Week

After refusing to commit his future to Liverpool, Sterling then told Brendan Rodgers that he wanted to leave in order to compete for trophies on a regular basis.

Sterling returned to pre-season with The Reds last Monday, but then phoned in sick for the next two days, before then telling Rodgers he didn’t want to go on the tour with his team-mates.

The winger informed Rodgers he had no plans on going during the week, and on Sunday it was revealed that the 20-year-old would be left at home.

City Reach Agreement

Hours later, a deal was agreed between City and Liverpool, with Manuel Pellegrini‘s side paying £49m for the winger.

City had two formal bids rejected earlier in the summer, with Rodgers holding out for around £50m, but they have finally got their main-target.

Sterling is currently undergoing his medical in Manchester, and a formal announcement is expected later today.
