Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic has said that Barcelona were better than Valencia yesterday. Barca’s winless streak in La Liga continued as they drew 1-1 against Valencia yesterday. Ezequiel Garay opened the scoring for Valencia after just two minutes. Barca talisman and Garay’s compatriot Lionel Messi scored the equaliser in the 23rd minute. However, neither side could find the net during the remainder of the match. Barcelona had some good chances but could not capitalise on them.
Rakitic was unhappy with the draw and thought that it was a shame Barcelona did not win. The Croatian midfielder said, “I think that with the superiority that we have had it is a shame that we didn’t pick up the three points. It is unfortunate that they have been able to hurt us so easily, the goal was a shame: a corner that was badly hit at waist height.”
As a result of the draw, Barca slipped to 2nd in the La Liga table after Sevilla beat Celta Vigo to go to the top. Sevilla now lead Barcelona by one point. Rakitic said, “We know how it is and it is nothing new. You have trips and this is also the nice thing about football that you play every four days. It is good to be fighting at the top of the table, we worked hard, we were superior against one of the best teams in the league at their ground.”
Barcelona play their next match against table-toppers Valencia on October 21. Provided Barca win, they will return to the top of the table.
