Raphael Varane needs to move to better his career- Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger has said Raphael Varane may need to move away from Real Madrid to aid his development with the French national team.

Varane is currently third choice centre back at the Bernabeu, behind Sergio Ramos and Pepe, and the Arsenal boss believes the defender needs to be playing regular first team football.

“If he doesn’t get injured, Varane will be France’s no.1 defender at Euro 2016”, said Wenger talking to beIN Sports.

“He is still young, though, and he needs to play regularly at Real Madrid. At his age, he still makes mistakes that could cost the team goals.”

Chelsea and Manchester United are both linked with a move with Los Blancos pricing Varane at a relatively reasonable ÂŁ19 million.

Jose Mourinho has publicly said that he admires the 21 year old’s game, but Varane wouldn’t be guaranteed regular first team action with Gary Cahill and John Terry striking up such a solid partnership.

Varane should be guaranteed a start at United, but the question is would he want to move to a club that can’t offer him Champions League football.
