United youngster has identified area of his game he needs to develop

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has set the ambitious target of following in the footsteps of former Red Devils star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 18-year-old burst onto the scene back in February, as an unknown graduate from United’s academy and scored twice on his debut against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, and a brace again, against Arsenal in the Premier League.

And the forward’s form has not slowed this campaign, under the new leadership of former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho. But Rashford is aware he has a lot of development ahead of him and Ronaldo is who the highly-rated England international is aspiring to.

“In recent years Ronaldo is the example, wherever you put him in the attacking three he’s going to make an impact and the opposition are going to fear him.” said Rashford.

“Being a constant threat, that’s what I need to develop.”

Rashford was just a young boy when he enjoyed watching the Real Madrid star performing at Old Trafford, alongside current captain Wayne Rooney, who the 18-year-old has since displaced from his forward position under Mourinho.

“Rooney and Ronaldo were unreal. In 2007/08 it was an unreal partnership, they have been huge players I have looked up to and watched how they perform to try to put into my own performance.” Rashford added.

The England international has netted three league goals so far this season, most recently in a 4-1 win over Premier League champions Leicester City, as well as one goal in the EFL Cup.
