Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool: Marcus Rashford’s deadly double fires Jose Mourinho’s side to victory.

Manchester United increased their grip on second position in the Premier League by beating Liverpool courtesy of Marcus Rashford’s double.

The 20-year-old Wythenshawe striker caused Liverpool all sorts of problems with his pace and he scored the opening goal on 14 minutes after weaving past Trent Alexander-Arnold to curl home past Loris Karius. It was 2-0 ten minutes later, again through Rashford, as the England striker was in the right place to fire home a loose ball.

But Liverpool improved markedly in the second half and were back in the game with just over 20 minutes to play when Eric Bailly miscued a clearance from Sadio Mane’s cross to convert into his own net.

There were boos when Mourinho replaced Rashford with Marouane Fellaini to add an extra body in midfield with 20 minutes remaining, and the Belgium international was fortunate not to concede a penalty when he sent Mane to ground.

Klopp sent on Georginio Wijnaldum and Dominic Solanke as Liverpool fought to restore parity, but United held on through six minutes of stoppage time for a third successive league win.
