Former Blues coach Ray Wilkins has said a move to Aston Villa for John Terry would be “absolutely incredible”.
The defender has been weighing up his options over the past few weeks after ending his 22-year association with Chelsea.
The 36-year-old had a successful career with Chelsea, winning 15 major trophies, including five Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Offer has been coming in from MLS in the United States and the option of a lucrative move to the Chinese Super League were reported to have been on table for Terry.
However, talkSPORT are claiming that Aston Villa are now currently in the driving seat to nab the defender’s signature.
Rivals Birmingham City have also put forward an offer, However, Wilkins, who has worked as an assistant coach at Villa back in 2015, believes that being part of Steve Bruce’s side will be beneficial for both Terry and the club.
He told talkSPORT:
“I think it could be a great move for him. He had a round of golf with Brucey not so long ago, so I think Steve got into him straight away, as Harry [Redknapp] tried to do also.
“But Steve is looking beyond the playing side for John, obviously taking a step down into that division, he would cope with that no problem. But to have him around the place and the experience he will also bring into the dressing room will be absolutely incredible.”
Terry admitted that he also contemplated retirement, but it seems increasingly likely that he will take on one more challenge before hanging up his boots.
