Real Madrid are close to completing a shock move for Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara, according to The Sun.
The Spain International joined German club from Barcelona for a reported fee of €25 million, signing a four year contract in 2013. He has developed himself as an integral part of the team and has won five Bundesliga titles in a row, as well as the DFB-Pokal, the DFL Super cup and the Club World Cup.
However, the 27 year old fell down the pecking order last season. Still he managed to score 7 goals and assisted 2 in 32 appearances in all completions.
The player was also selected in the Spain World Cup squad and featured in all of their matches. But they were surprisingly knocked out by Russia in the Round of 16 as they lost on penalties.
The midfielder has featured extensively in the club’s pre-season despite being heavily linked with Manchester City and his former club Barca. But his club were not willing to sell him at that moment.
However, the Bundesliga giants are now willing to let him go as they have managed to keep hold of their key players Robert Lewandowski and James Rodriguez.
Julen Lopetegui is a big fan of Alcantara from their times working together with Spain. A fee somewhere between £35-45 million is expected to be enough to get the deal done.
