They could sign him if Mateo Kovacic leaves
Despite winning the Champions League final against Liverpool last month, Real Madrid are expected to reinforce their side this summer after an underwhelming domestic campaign. The club may sell few players in order to accommodate new signings.
Mateo Kovacic is one of them who has been heavily linked with a summer exit. He joined them from Inter Milan for €29 million in the summer of 2015 as the Italian side was forced to sell him due to Financial Fair Play.
But since then, the Croatian has failed to lock down a starting role at the Santiago Bernabeu . He has fallen down the pecking order behind Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casimero and often been reduced to the bench.
The 23 year old has been frustrated with the lack of game time and could look for an exit this summer. He has been linked with a move to Serie A with Inter also showing interest in him.
Real Madrid could look to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara if Kovacic leaves the club, reports Marca .
Spaniard joined the German side from Barcelona for a reported fee of €25 million, signing a four year contract in 2013. He has developed himself as an integral part of the team and has won five Bundesliga titles in a row, as well as the DFB-Pokal, the DFL Supercup and the Club World Cup.
He was a regular for the Bundesliga giants last season, scoring 7 goals and assisting 2 in 32 appearances in all completions.
The 27 year old remains an important player for the club and showed his commitment by signing a four year contract extension last summer. Despite that, he has been heavily linked with a exit with his former club also showing interest in him.
Alcantara, who has a strong relationship with new Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui, could follow the former Spain manager to Madrid should Kovacic depart.
