Madrid made advances for him in the January transfer Window

Real Madrid are planning to sign a new goalkeeper on a long term basis, as Keylor Navas is 32 years old and has been inconsistent recently, especially in the Champions League match against Juventus. They have been linked with David De Gea, Alisson Becker and Thibaut Courtois ahead of the summer transfer window.

They were also heavily linked with Athletic Bilbao’s goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the January transfer window. But the 23 year old rejected advances from them and instead signed a new seven year contract with Bilbao.

Zidane was reminded of his failure to sign the Spain international on Wednesday as Kepa kept Madrid at bay for much of their La Liga clash, only for Cristiano Ronaldo to score a fortunate equaliser three minutes from time.

Real Madrid found very difficult to score against Bilbao as the Spanish goalkeeper made number of important saves to deny them from scoring again and again.

Though Zidane admitted that the club does not regret missing out on the signature of the young goalkeeper despite Navas’s inconsistent performances for the club.

“For me there is no such thing, I made that decision, period, because I do not make changes in the middle of the season, Kepa is a good goalkeeper,” Zidane said, according to Goal.com

“He was very good but the defence was good too and you know I do not speak of the future. I only think about the [Champions League] semi-finals.”
