Real Madrid fell to yet another league defeat to Valencia on Wednesday to move further away from the top spot.

Now the Galacticos are 13 points behind their arch-rivals, Barcelona after the 2-1 showing at the Mestalla. Goals from Goncalo Guedes and Ezequiel Garay gave the hosts the momentum to collect all three points before Karim Benzema chimed in with a consolation effort.

Zinedine Zidane, who only marked his return to the Santiago a few short weeks back admitted to how difficult it is to motivate the Madrid players.

He said, “They will try to finish the season in the best possible way. We are going to spend a few months in which we will talk about many different topics.

“It’s true that maybe in these games, we lack some motivation. But these players are professionals and when they put on the shirt of this team they know they have to go for it and they do it.”

Like the general opinion of most fans and the media, Zidane does not believe the final stretch of the campaign is a proving ground for the Los Blancos players. With nothing to play for this season, the Frenchman is looking to lift the team’s morale and their confidence in preparation for the next term.

He further added, “This is not an exam at all because these people are Real Madrid players. We are going through a complicated moment. We must also live the bad moments, it will not change anything.”
