Though the player insisted he is happy at Santiago Bernabeu

Marco Asensio joined Real Madrid from Mallorca for a €3.9 million fee, signing a six year deal on December 2014. He remained with his club on loan until the end of the campaign and was again loaned to  RCD Espanyol for the whole campaign in the following season.

He returned back to the La Liga giants for the 2016/2017 season and developed under former manager Zinedine Zidane almost beyond recognition. He has been a key player for the club since then and has established himself as one of the best young talents in the world, winning eight trophies in that time, including the Liga title and two Champions Leagues.

The Spaniard started off the last season strongly, scoring in both legs of the Supercopa de Espana triumph over Barcelona. He scored 9 goals and assist 7 in 48 appearances and even managed to keep the likes of Isco and Gareth Bale out from the starting XI.

However, the 21 year old struggled to retain his place in the team and his progress stalled towards the end of the season. But ended the campaign on a high note as the club won their third consecutive Champions League.

The midfielder has been linked with an exit throughout the summer with clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool showed interested in him. But the Spanish side were keen to keep hold of their asset especially after losing Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus.

Asensio insisted that his primary goal is to stay at Madrid and win more trophies with them. However, he also refused to rule out a future move away.

“My first option is always to triumph at Real Madrid. After that, you never know what can happen,” he told GQ as quoted by Goal.

“Real Madrid are the most successful club in the world and from the start you know you have to be prepared and to give everything for the shirt.

“I try not to focus too much on the expectations there are of me. It’s normal for so much to be generated, because they’ve been two really good years at Real Madrid. I just hope to keep getting better.”
