So, Raheem Sterling has rejected his latest contract offer. Not a huge surprise given Liverpool’s precarious start to their 2014/15 campaign, but news has come in that Real Madrid are very interested in the international winger with the world at his feet.
And following weeks of conjecture regarding the longevity of Gareth Bale’s stay in the Spanish capitol, news is emerging that Real Madrid may be prepared to sell him alongside Karim Benzema to free up the funds to make an audacious bid for Sterling. Manchester United and Chelsea will both be keen to land Bale, and record fees may have to paid to do just that.
This news follows reports earlier in the week suggesting Real were preparing to sell on Bale and Benzema, in favour of attracting Sergio Aguero and Marco Reus. Today however, Borussia Dortmund boss, Jurgen Klopp has insisted Reus will be staying in Germany. He said ‘I believe that fundamentally Marco would love to stay here because he loves the city and he loves Borussia Dortmund.’
Madrid are very aware of the Sterling contract saga, and will have no hesitation in making a move if a big enough offer for Bale is received. That will be seen in Madrid as good business if they can’t capture Reus.
Sterling is eager to explore his options after turning down a £70,000 a week contract extension at Anfield.
