Former Real Madrid director, Jorge Valdano has warned them against chasing Neymar.
Reports have heavily linked the Galacticos with Paris Saint-Germain’s star man all summer. Barcelona are obviously thought to be favourites to land the Brazilian but lately, Real has been tipped to have the upper hand in the entire transfer saga.
Neymar is desperate to move out of the Parc des Princes but his employers are holding out for a huge pay package – that would include the £200m they paid for him and more.
Los Blancos have been heavy spenders this transfer window, bringing in the likes of Rodrygo, Luka Jovic, Eden Hazard, Ferland Mendy and Eder Militao. They are still chasing two creative heads from the Premier League – Paul Pogba and Christian Eriksen.
However, a move for Neymar would clearly rule out the possibilities of any other additions. And Valdano has pressed on that issue for Los Blancos to stay clear of the PSG man.
“Neymar is not the signing that Real Madrid needs,” the Argentine told Onda Cero’s El Transistor. “Madrid have to strengthen more in other areas of the field. It seems to me that there are other areas of the pitch which are more in need of reinforcement. Real Madrid are lacklustre at the moment and must make some decisions.”
