Gareth Bale has been a frustrated figure at Real Madrid this campaign. He couldn’t establish himself as a regular starter for the team due to inconsistency, with Zinedine Zidane prefering Isco and Asensio ahead of him. He has also struggled with injuries managing to start just 19 games.
Bale’s relationship with Zidane has detoriated since he was left out of Real Madrid’s last-16 Champions League first leg against Paris Saint-Germain back in February. He did not start the second leg and suffered the same fate in the quarter-final first leg against Juventus.
He began the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu but was taken off at half-time in Real Madrid’s 3-1 defeat. The 28 year old didn’t even travel for weekend game against Malaga and came as a substitute against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday.
Zinedine Zidane has stated that he has no intentions to sell Bale. But if the player wants to leave at the end of the season, contingency plans are being put in place. Real Madrid are expected to overhaul their squad this summer, priority is signing a goalkeeper and striker.
But the Spanish giants will make a move for Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard if Gareth Bale leaves Santiago Bernabeu, says the Daily Mail. Hazard is a long time target for them and Zidane even wanted to sign him last summer.
If Madrid do move for the Belgian they are unlikely to pay the €100 million price tag mentioned when they showed interest in him before the turn of the year. The perception of him has changed too with his underwhelming displays this season for his club Chelsea.
