Carlo Ancelotti is willing to meet the defender’s buy-out clause
Chelsea and Arsenal were reported to be interested in the 19-year-old until his price increased from £13M to £36M.
Jose Luis Gaya, is a product of the famed Mestalla academy which has produced the likes of Barcelona’s Jordi Alba and Bayern Munich’s Juan Bernat.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Ancelotti has recently granted club officials permission to pursue the left-back and has no qualms with meeting the big price tag.
He may well be unsuccessful in his attempts to lure the Valencia defender to the Bernabeu after Gaya expressed his desire to remain at the Mestalla.
Gaya said: “I am very happy and proud to extend my deal with Valencia.”
“It’s what I wanted from the beginning and in the end things have turned out as both parties wanted.”
“We’ve both emerged as winners from this and it is another dream come true. It was very exciting to debut in the Primera Division with Valencia, and now I have signed on for five more years.”
The importance of Gaya
The academy graduate turns 20 next month, yet he has been central to Valencia’s campaign this season as they currently occupy 4th place.
Gaya who has made 34 appearances for the Spanish club this season was a target of several Premier League clubs but the revised asking price warned them away.
