The two London teams picked up much needed points

Arsenal and Chelsea kept their chances of qualification to the Champions League knockout stages alive after both acquired points from their respective games.

Arsenal vs Bayern Munich

Starting with Arsenal, who gained a massive three points as they defeated Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s visitors dominated the ball and created several opportunities, but, despite having 73% possession, Bayern couldn’t convert their chances into goals.

The Gunners took the lead after Olivier Giroud poached a goal following a rare mistake from Manuel Neuer, who fumbled a Santi Cazorla free-kick.

Mesut Ozil wrapped up the game in the fourth minute of injury time. Arsenal counter-attacked as Bayern pushed for an equaliser and Hector Bellerin’s cross was turned home by the German playmaker.

This may well prove to be a huge victory for Arsenal in the grand scheme of things. They lost away to Dinamo Zagreb and at home to Olympiakos but now they are back in race to progress from Group F.

Dynamo Kiev vs Chelsea

On the other hand, this was not the result Jose Mourinho would have wanted as his Chelsea side drew 0-0 in Ukraine; this point gives them just four points from their opening three group matches.

However, it can still be seen as a positive result for the Blues because the draw means they are only a win away from the Group G leaders Porto.

A clean sheet and a point away from home in the group stages is always a bonus, as teams tend to progress if they win their home games and pick a couple of points up here and there on the road.

It could have even been a win for the Premier League champions, Cesc Fabregas had a good case for a penalty turned down which has sparked more critical comments about referees from Mourinho.

Nevertheless, Chelsea are going about their business in decent fashion and will fancy their chances of qualification, especially when they have Porto and Kiev at Stamford Bridge and an away fixture at Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
