Reports: Real Madrid open talks to sign £48million Chelsea defender

Real Madrid are lining up a stunning January move for Chelsea defender David Luiz, that’s according to a report from French source RMC today.

The Radio Station says that los Blancos are prepared to pay a fee of around £48million for the Brazilian, who’s future at Stamford Bridge is unclear following a high profile dispute with manager Antonio Conte.

Luiz questioned the Blues boss’ tactics after their 3-0 Champions League loss to Roma a few weeks ago and was subsequently left out of the next match against Manchester United.

He has since worked his way back into first team contention, but the relationship between him and Conte is strained and it seems that Chelsea will listen to offers for the defender in January.

Zinedine Zidane is seeking defensive reinforcements after the departure of Pepe last summer and Raphael Varane’s ongoing injury problems, and has reportedly made Luiz his top target.

The 30 year-old is currently in his second spell at Chelsea. He re-signed for the Blues in the summer of 2016 after a two year spell in Ligue 1 with PSG.

RMC are generally seen as a reliable source. The journalist running the story Mohamed Bouhafsi also broke news of the N’Golo Kante to Chelsea transfer last summer.
