Harry Redknapp has revealed Chelsea star Eden Hazard was “dead keen” on a move to Tottenham before choosing to join Chelsea in 2012.

Former Tottenham manager Redknapp has spoken out about how he had a sit down meeting with Hazard back in 2012.

Tottenham had just finished fourth for the second time in three years and qualified for the Champions League and Redknapp believes he was just one signing away from building a group that could challenge for the title.

“I met [Eden] Hazard and spent three hours with him in a hotel in Paris – I met him at the airport and he was dead keen to come to Tottenham,” Redknapp said.

“We were right down the road with Hazard and Luis Suarez was the best player in the Premier League when he was at Liverpool, he was fantastic.

“If we just got one of those in, we had a team that could have challenged for the title.”

Redknapp, However, had to settle for two free transfers but also revealed that Suarez was their number one target.

“We got Louis Saha and Ryan Nelsen on free transfers – we were short, we had injuries at centre-half and I had no striker.

“If we had gone out [and invested] then… Luis Suarez was the player we were looking at.”
