Leicester striker nearly made London switch
Jamie Vardy has revealed how close he was for signing for Arsenal this summer.
Vardy helped his current club Leicester to the title last season after grabbing 24 goals in the league for the Foxes.
And this saw Arsene Wenger trigger the £20million release clause in his contract, and a deal came very close to happening.
But Vardy rejected the offer on the table from the Gunners and opted to stay at the King Power.
And he has now revealed he made his final decision after deliberating in his hotel room at Euro 2016.
“I was in a hotel room for the Euros – you do get a lot of free time – and that time was spent thinking about every single aspect [of Arsenal’s offer], the pros and cons,” Vardy told radio station talkSPORT.
“It all came down to my head and my heart both saying ‘stay’, because I personally think there’s a lot more to come from Leicester and I want to be a part of that.”
Vardy has since gone on to start in every Premier League game for Leicester this term, scoring two goals so far.
