Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku was left furious after the Red Devils’ 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last before in the International break.
The Belgian striker scored twice for his country against Mexico on Friday, but has now gone 7 club matches without a goal and took his frustration out on teammates after the Chelsea match.
Lukaku bemoaned the lack of service that he was given in the match, and according to reports his really let his feelings known to other players in the dressing room after the match in an angry rant.
The 24 year-old started his United career like a house on fire, scoring 11 times in his first 10 matches. However, his recent goal drought has not gone down well and he has even been booed by a section of his own fans.
He didn’t manage a single touch inside the Chelsea penalty area last Sunday, although Jose Mourinho was still happy with the striker’s performance and backed him to start scoring again soon.
“I’m not reading stats, I’m reading the game,” the United manager said. “I’m happy with [Lukaku’s] attitude and his desire.”
“He had a chance with a good shot that the goalkeeper saved, and created spaces for Martial and Rashford. I’m happy and I don’t want to look at the stats.”
United fans will hope that Lukaku returns to form sooner rather than later, as they need his goals to help make up the 8 point gap on league leaders Manchester City.
