Everton thump Sunderland, while Southampton pile more misery onto Bournemouth

There were just the two games in the Premier League today with Everton hosting Sunderland and Southampton taking on AFC Bournemouth.

Despite their only being the two games, they still managed to see 10-goals, with eight of them coming at Goodison Park as Roberto Martinez‘s men thumped Sam Allardyce‘s Sunderland.

It was quite a spectacle in Merseyside as the Toffees took on the Black Cats, who were coming off their derby-day victory against Newcastle United.

However, their joys didn’t last long as they were back on the losing side today.

It took Everton just 19-minutes to score their first of six and it was Gerard Deulofeu who gave the hosts the lead before Arouna Kone doubled their advantage 12-minutes later.

Sunderland gave themselves hope on the stroke of half-time as Jermain Defoe turned home past Tim Howard after a slight deflection off John Stones.

Whatever Allardyce said at half-time, it clearly worked, to start with as Steven Fletcher headered home his second in two games to make it 2-2 with 50-minutes on the clock.

Despite it being 2-2 in the 50th minute, it was 5-2 after the 62nd minute as Everton netted three goals in quick succession.

A Sebastián Coates own-goal restored the hosts’ lead before Romelu Lukaku and Kone made it four and five respectively.

Kone finished the game with his hat-trick 14-minutes from time to round off a perfect day for Everton and for the player himself.

The win puts Everton 9th, while Sunderland remain 19th.

Southampton 2-0 AFC Bournemouth

In the later game, Bournemouth travelled to Southampton on the back off two thrashings at the hands of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Things didn’t get much better today sadly for Eddie Howe as Saints were 2-0 up after 36-minutes thanks to goals from Steven Davis and Graziano Pelle.

Ronald Koeman‘s men ended the game with 10-men, much like they did at Anfield last week, as Victor Wanyama saw red for two bookable offences.

The win moves Saints up to 7th, while Howe‘s men drop to 17th.
