Rio Ferdinand has given his verdict on the own goal scored by Kieran Trippier in the Chelsea match.

The England right-back passed the ball past Hugo Lloris in the back of his own net in the 84th minute.

Former Manchester United defender turned football expert Rio Ferdinand has explained who was the real culprit in Kieran Trippier’s own goal in the Chelsea match. The English international was seen passing the ball past Hugo Lloris who was out of position into the back of his own net helping Chelsea to get their second goal after Pedro put the Blues in the lead against Tottenham Hotspur in their clash at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking in BT Sport, the former England defender said, “As a defender, in the defender’s union, I blame the goalkeeper. Edwin Van Der Sar got an earful.”

He added, “Olivier Giroud got a great assist. Here you can see he looks Trippier, his head goes down, and he doesn’t look again. He sees the goalkeeper on his line, head to the left head to the right, goalkeeper is on his line, keep the distance between where you are so there’s no problem. And then you can clear the ball. The moment Lloris comes off his line, where there is no pressure on Trippier at all, you confuse the whole situation and then you get an own goal. Communication on both goals is missing. Lloris can see everything there, scream at your defender and take over the situation and you don’t have mistakes like that.”
