Arsenal legend Robert Pires has claimed Alexis Sanchez does not really know what is going on with his contract situation at the club.
Sanchez, who has netted 59 goals in 122 games since making his Gunners debut back in 2014, is yet to sign a contract extension as negotiations continue at the Emirates Stadium.
It seems like the 28-year-old’s main focus is just on playing football at the moment as Arsenal chase Chelsea’s tail in the Premier League title race, despite his contract expiring in 2018.
“I spoke to Alexis [Sanchez] last week and asked about the renewal. He told me he didn’t know, that he only cared to play.” Pires told Chilean news organisation La Tercera.
“The renewal is not a subject for Alexis. He doesn’t know what is going to happen, he just wants to play and enjoy.”
Pires, who won seven trophies while at Highbury between 2000 and 2006, urged the Chile international to stay at the club for many more years.
The one-time invincible added: “Yes, that’s what we all know. All we want is for Alexis to remain at Arsenal.
“I hope he renews his contract because he is a wonderful player. Alexis is the engine of the car.
“I hope he stays forever.”
