Robert Pires: ‘Thierry Henry or Carlo Ancelotti should replace Arsene Wenger’

Arsenal legend, Robert Pires, believes the club should appoint one of Thierry Henry or Carlo Ancelotti as their next manager once Arsene Wenger calls it a day.

The Frenchman has been at the club since 1996, making him the Premier League’s current longest-serving manager, after Sir Alex Ferguson retired last year, and despite a mixed few years, it looks like Wenger is finally back to being appreciated at the Emirates Stadium.

Despite ending a nine year trophy drought in May after lifting the FA Cup, fans were calling for Wenger’s head after a slow start to the new campaign.

However, after picking up form and already making two signings this month, with the second set to join, fans seems to be back on Wenger’s side.

Over the Summer, Wenger signed a new two-year deal at the club, but that hasn’t stopped ex-Gunner, Pires, from discussing who he thinks should take over once Wenger steps down.

Pires was asked if he thinks Wenger will leave before 2017, to which the former-midfielder replied with: ‘Not this time. Beside that, Wenger still has a contract with Arsenal.

‘Who is the perfect replacement? Thierry Henry? He understands football and Arsenal. I don’t know, but I like Carlo Ancelotti. But that’s my opinion, it doesn’t mean that Arsenal need Ancelotti at this time.’
