Liverpool summer signing suffers injury blow

Liverpool midfielder Roberto Firmino has cracked a bone in his back and is set to be sidelined for around a fortnight.

The ÂŁ29million summer-signing was subbed off against Carlisle United in the Capital One Cup tie on Wednesday evening after landing awkwardly during an aerial battle, and it’s now been revealed the diagnosis of his injury.

The Brazilian will certainly miss this weekend’s must-win game against Aston Villa at Anfield, and could also miss the Merseyside derby the following week.

Liverpool sent off scans yesterday and they have returned showing that he’s cracked a bone in his back. However, the club don’t know how long he will be out for just yet as it depends on how they manage the pain Firmino is on.

Injuries Adding Up

The news will be another blow for the Reds after Dejan Lovren was also injured and carried off on a stretcher on Wednesday night.

The Croat is expected to miss a couple of months after reportedly breaking his ankle and damaging ligaments.

Previous injuries which involved broken bones in a back don’t take too long to recover from. Everton ‘keeper Tim Howard broke two in his back and was playing again within a month.
