Roberto Firmino signs long term contract extension with Liverpool

The Brazilian has been superb this season

Roberto Firmino has signed a new 5 year long-term contract at Liverpool, the Premier League club have announced. His contract is extended until the summer of 2023 and will earn £180000 a week.

The Brazilian joined the Reds from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim in 2015 and went on to establish himself as an integral member of Jurgen Klopp’s side. He has been spectacular this season, scoring 27 goals in all competitions and has scored overall 50 goals in 140 appearances for the club.

This season he has formed a formidable front-line with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah and have been scoring goals for fun. They were in full flow against Roma in the first leg of Champions League semi final where they thumped them 5-2, Firmino scoring two of them.

“It was an easy decision,” he told Liverpool’s official website after putting pen to paper.

“The club have taken me in in an incredible way and I’ve grown a lot here with my work with the support of the whole team. I am very, very happy here.

“Everything fits in the best possible way. My teammates are fantastic and I am very grateful to be able to play with them at this club.

“I love to play for Liverpool FC. The fans are excellent and fantastic in how they support us all the way.

“They support us throughout the games and the work they do during the match is beautiful.”

Liverpool will face Roma in the Italian capital on Wednesday.
