Toffees boss not happy with Blues’ pursuit of John Stones
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has blasted Chelsea and Jose Mourinho for their public pursuit of John Stones.
The Toffees received a formal bid for the young centre-back during the week, and Martinez has criticised The Blues for how they went so public with the bid during early stages of negotiations.
Jose Mourinho has identified Stones as a top summer target, with the plan of making him John Terry‘s successor once the veteran decides to retire from the game.
According to reports, Chelsea will up their offer to a record breaking ÂŁ30million, after seeing their ÂŁ20m bid turned down, and the feeling around Stamford Bridge is that they can sign the centre-back this summer.
However, Martinez has hit out at the West London outfit and has criticised their way of dealing with things.
Martinez Unhappy
The Spaniard said: “Another football club is making such a statement in the press so openly. I don’t think that is the way we would do it at Everton.
“We wouldn’t speak about a player that is at another club and there is no issue from our point of view – John Stones is an Everton player, full stop. We are not a selling club in that respect.
“There is nothing to speak to John about. I always speak with the players but there is nothing to comment about.”
