The striker has been linked with a move away

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has refused to comment on Romelu Lukaku’s future at the club, despite the player’s agent claiming they would sell his client if the price was right.

The Belgium international centre forward is the Toffees’ record signing, but his representative Mino Raiola apparently told a French radio station that he could leave Goodison Park.

However, Martinez wasn’t being dragged into transfer speculation in a recent press conference, even though the 22-year old Lukaku has recently been linked with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

‘He’s had a very important role with us’

When speaking in his pre-Sunderland press conference, Martinez said: “I’m not here to try to do the job of an agent and I’m not going to entertain any sort of rumours and speculation.

With Romelu, it has been a joy to see him growing and developing from a very young age.”

The Spaniard also added: “He’s had a very important role with us and now I feel he’s in the perfect moment to kick on and even take more responsibility on the pitch.

All that matters to everyone at Everton is Romelu can keep fulfilling that role, keep enjoying his football and being very important for his team.”
