Brendan Rodgers has said Liverpool are in regular contact with their loanee striker Divock Origi, to ‘prepare’ him to hit the ground running next season.

The Belgian striker was bought in from Lille in the summer, but was then loaned straight back to the French team.

Under the terms of his loan deal, Liverpool cannot recall Origi until the end of the season, unless they pay more money to Lille.

Liverpool fans are clamoring for the club to make every effort to bring back Origi in January with Daniel Sturridge out injured, but this seems unlikely.

Rodgers revealed he was keeping close tabs on the 19 year old.

“We’re in regular contact with the kid, he’s a wonderful talent,” he said.

“He’s a big talent for someone so young and we’re looking at aspects of his game.”

Origi faces Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton in an important Europa League encounter tonight, but Rodgers denies the pair will meet whilst Origi is in the city.

“No, we have to respect that he’s concentrating for his club and his team tonight,” the Northern Irishman said. “They have an important game and we have to respect that.”
